Specialist Funds

For more sophisticated investors looking to expand their portfolios beyond the traditional asset classes and fund profiles, Fiducian offers a range of five specialist funds.

Aimed at longer-term returns

Several of Fiducian’s specialist funds have the potential for significant fluctuations at times, and investment should be aimed at longer-term returns. Investors should consult their financial adviser if considering incorporating one or more of the Fiducian specialist funds in their portfolio, and should always read the relevant Product Disclosure Statement.

The Fiducian Technology Fund

The Fiducian Technology Fund allows investors to participate directly in a blend of some of the technology funds available worldwide. Fund managers have been chosen to balance exposure in terms of region, sector and type of company. Managers can invest in technology companies anywhere in the world, provided only that these companies can benefit from leading-edge technology and can demonstrate significant earnings growth prospects.

The Fiducian Technology Fund focuses on exposure to the highest growth sectors in the advanced economies, which will drive economic success in the future for society as a whole. These sectors include new and rapidly developing fields of high technology, such as biotechnology, robotics, artificial intelligence, information technology and even the ground-breaking field of nano-technology. In other words, this fund is heavily invested in the so-called new and innovative BRAIN technologies that could eventually offer large potential rewards to investors. The funds are well diversified with between 30 and 100 stocks held by each fund.

Who would the Fiducian Technology Fund suit?

Investors must bear in mind that investing in a fund of this nature can involve periods of very high volatility, although superior long-run returns may be achieved if investors are prepared to hold investments for periods of at least 5-7 years.1

The Fiducian India Fund

The Fiducian India Fund provides investors with a unique opportunity to invest in a well-diversified range of companies listed on Indian stock exchanges. The Fund is managed by a selection of four (4) Indian fund managers based in India, and can satisfy Fiducian’s stringent criteria. These fund managers employ large teams of research analysts with substantial local knowledge of the many languages, regional differences in business processes, economic activity and regulatory environment.

While this fund could be expected to deliver relatively high returns over the longer term, it could also experience periods of capital loss. Performance could be significantly affected by rapid changes in investor sentiment, potential difficulties in buying or selling shares, unexpected regulatory changes by government, political developments and currency fluctuations (this fund is not hedged against changes in currency).

Who would the Fiducian India Fund suit?

In our view, this Fund appears suited to investors who are seeking access to a high-growth economy. While it holds promise for capital growth, caution is warranted when investing in this Fund. Taking advice from a financial adviser is recommended. Due to the potential for significant fluctuations at times, investment should be aimed at longer-term returns with money that is not required for cash flow at short notice.

The Fiducian Global Smaller Companies and Emerging Markets Fund

The Fiducian Global Smaller Companies & Emerging Markets Fund provides investors with the opportunity to combine investments in companies that are generally of small capitalisation in the more developed markets and with investments in companies that are listed on the stock exchanges of the less developed (emerging) markets.

Smaller companies in developed and better regulated markets have shown superior long-term growth when compared with their larger peers, as they are generally more flexible and operate in market niches that give them greater opportunity to increase profits. Emerging markets funds invest in developing countries and offer investors the opportunity to benefit from the significant growth potential inherent in many of these economies as they raise their standards of living.

It is expected that by diversifying between these two segments of the international share market, investors could be somewhat cushioned against the unexpected volatility and loss of capital that any one country’s market, industry sector or individual shares could generate. However, while this Fund could deliver high returns over the long term, it could also show periods of significant volatility caused by rapid changes in investor sentiment, difficulties in buying and selling shares, regulatory changes by Governments and currency, economic and political developments.

Who would the Fiducian Global Smaller Companies and Emerging Markets Fund suit?

This Fund may be suited for limited components of an investor’s portfolio that are not needed for cash flow at short notice and can be left to grow despite large fluctuations, for potential long-term gain.

The Fiducian Geared Australian Shares Fund

The Fiducian Geared Australian Shares Fund gives investors the opportunity to use a modest level of gearing built into the structure of the fund to leverage exposure to the Australian share market. This fund spreads investment between two (2) specialist geared share fund managers as well as including exposure to the Fiducian Australian Shares Fund and the varied specialist managers within that fund.

Australian shares as an asset sector can deliver high returns over long periods of time, but can also show sharp and significant fluctuations in value, over short intervals. These fluctuations would tend to be increased, both up and down, by the inclusion of gearing within the structure of the fund.

This Fund also allows investors to participate in Australia’s economic growth and enables Australian resident investors to benefit from favourable tax treatment accompanying franked earnings of Australian shares.
